I go through beauty products like I go through men, whiskey, wine, hair colors, phones… Well, like I go through everything: quickly, passionately, quick to love, quick to hate, always looking for the next best thing. Well, below, some of my greatest finds and discoveries of January. I owe these products all the appreciative looks I got from hotties last month ;)
Make Up Forever Aqua Black Waterproof Cream Eye Shadow
I feel absolutely naked without eyeliner – I refuse to be seen by Adam Levine without it. Lately I’ve been practicing my winged eyeliner, trying to get my triangles even and my lines straight. Who knew that makeup artistry involved geometry? Here’s my secret to keeping my liner game on lock: ditch the liquids and pencils for gels and, in this case, cream shadow. Or you can skip the high-maintenance wing altogether and just smudge this all over your eyes for a sultry, partied-out, rock n’ roll look. It’s magic in a little tiny baby black box.
Urban Decay Smoked Palette
Speaking of sultry, smoky, partied out rock n’ roll eyes, haaaaaave you met Urban Decay’s Smoked Palette? I know what you’re thinking – “Urban Decay has eyeshadow palettes outside of the Naked ones?” YES, yes they do, and it would do you well to ditch the shimmery neutrals once in awhile. The colors in this palette work best with my heavily fringed blue bangs, helping my eyes stand out while still allowing my signature smoky teal “don’t talk to me” look to come through.
RevitaInk Revita Body
Last summer I wrote this article for Refinery29 about tattoo skincare; afterward, a company named RevitaInk reached out to me to send me some of their tattoo aftercare products. I haven’t really had the chance to put them to use until recently – I got a new, rather sizeable tattoo in January, probably the biggest I’ve done. My artist filled in two huge roses, leaves, and a perfume bottle on my arm, and goddamn did it hurt. It’s so pretty though, right?

Anyway, I ditched the usual post-tattoo Aquaphor in favor of Revita Body, and I went through the entire tube in 10 days (now I’m back to stupid Aquaphor). Revita Body is technically made to keep your older tattoos looking brand new, as their formula Revita Heal is specifically for new tattoos. I don’t have Heal on hand, so I tried Body. It really is fast absorbing, and had a somewhat cooling effect on my literally hot and bothered arm. It isn’t sticky, helped prevent scabbing, and the winning factor for me: cut down the itch factor by 90%. I need to restock this bad boy before my next appointment.
Davines OI Shampoo & Conditioner
My hair is already hopelessly addicted to Davines’ OI/Oil Absolute Beautifying Potion, so when Davines told me they were releasing a complementary line to include a Shampoo, Conditioner, and Leave-In Treatment, I squealed like a 12 y/o tween wearing body glitter to a Beiber concert. They released the line just in time too: I started using it right after my hair endured that horrific visit to trim salon (read about that hot mess here). It’s sulfate free, which is perfect for hair color, especially fantasy hair color. Lord knows my blue hair doesn’t need any HELP fading. It also has a pleasant, delicate scent – sort of a sweet cream, but without smelling like you just left a bakery, and leaves your hair so soft that Snuggle the Downy Bear would be jealous.
Ardency Inn Modster Long Play Supercharged Lip Color in “Cult”
I am obsessed with this lipstick. You can take your classic retro-matte reds and go to the back of the basic bitch line with them: I will always and forever be a pink lady. Sephora describes this shade as “vibrant tropical melon pink,” I call it “neon hot pink.” It definitely has a touch of coral in it, but you know, color is a preference. Let’s talk about wear: this highly pigmented shade manages to be matte without being drying. It has a slight creaminess that fades while the color doesn’t – I don’t know if it transfers, as I’ve yet to attempt smear this shade all over some bearded brunette hottie, but I will. Oh, I will. In the meantime, how cute does it look on me? OMG, so ca-yute.
FTC DISCLAIMER: All of these products were sent to me for editorial consideration, thank you very much to their respective companies. They like me, they really really like me.
