100 Days of Lipstick: One New Color Every Day for 100 Days

I love lipstick. I love it in an obnoxious, hoarding, addicted kind of way. I could never wear enough of it, and I’ve been known to go through an entire tube of my favorite color in a month. The thing about lipstick is that I just want to put it on my lips then smear it all over the cheeks of fat babies, imprint it on coffee cups, and leave my print mark on every cute boy’s face.

Oh man, I love lipstick so much. Even more than glitter.

I probably haven’t worn most of these.

Lipstick is amazing. It brightens up your face and it’s been proven that just the simple act of applying your favorite color is a mood-booster. There are even studies on the “Lipstick Effect,” which notes that even during a recession, we’ll find ways to fit our favorite beauty products into our budgets, especially our lipstick. Hey, I might be poor and unemployed, but I’m still gonna look good while I fill that role.

However, when it comes to variety in my lipstick color choices, I don’t have it. I tend to avoid oranges, reds, nudes, purples, and browns. What does that leave? Pink. Hot pink, pink-corals, shimmery pink, pink, pink, pink. What can I say? It looks good on me and doesn’t compete with my signature black-and-gold-glittered eyes. It doesn’t hurt that those two shades are also my favorite colors.

Suffice to say, I am in a beauty rut. There’s no reason I should be. I’m a makeup artist! I’m a beauty blogger! I’m young! I should be living it up! Lacquering up my lips in lovely shades of lavender! I have 200+ lipsticks, most that aren’t pink! Hell, some are still in their packaging and have now been discontinued because that’s how long it’s been since I’ve tried a new color.

I DON’T EVEN WEAR RED LIPSTICK, YOU GUYS.

So I decided to actually stop wearing the same boring shades of hot pink. That being said, for the next 100 days, I’ll be wearing a new color EVERY SINGLE DAY. Bright colors don’t scare me, so I’m hoping to stay away from boring colors and aiming for BOLD, SUPER PIGMENTED shades. It doesn’t have to be a traditional lipstick; I’m also open to lip glosses and lip pencils so long as they have a strong color, and so long as that color is never, ever brown. I hate brown lipstick and I am never, ever, ever wearing brown lipstick and you can’t make me.

I’m calling it 100 Days of Lipstick. I started yesterday. I wore an orangey-coral. I felt very, very tan. We’ll get to that later, though.

I’ll be posting weekly updates on this blog of mine; for daily updates, follow me on Twitter @omgbren (and the same name on Instagram) and tweet me color suggestions with the hashtag #100daysoflipstick!

Now, off to pick a new color for today!

  1. This is such a great idea! I’ll be following along for lipstick inspiration. I have WAY TOO MUCH of it too, but yet practically never even wear it! Something is very wrong with this picture.

  2. I’m about as low maintenance as you can get beauty wise. I do have a favorite lipstick (more like a gloss) called Black Honey by Clinique. I wore it years ago and found it on an errant stop into Sephora and bought it.

Try it! It’s a red-brown gloss and let me know if you like it!

Lipstick is probably one of the hardest things to get women to change–I know I have my old standbys & hate to change! Good luck with the challenge; can’t wait to see what you come up with.
